About Us

Our family of 6 (dad Adam, mom Sherry, big sister Abby and little brothers Isaac and Brady -- who was born on December 14, 2010) joined the ranks of pediatric cancer fighters when our 4-year old son Logan was diagnosed with a dangerous and highly malignant form of brain cancer in mid-August 2010. Logan's cancer journey began abruptly on Sunday, August 15, when his right eye suddenly turned inward during dinner. Twenty-four hours later, we were checking into Children's Hospital Oakland and finding out that life sometimes takes you places you'd never, ever imagine yourself going.

Ugh.

The news is not what we wanted: The line has to come out and then be replaced, and they want to do it as soon as possible, so we're likely not going to be spending Thanksgiving together as a family after all. Adam is waiting for Philippa to get back to him with the official plan that's devised by the oncology and surgical teams, though given that it's the night before Thanksgiving, it's not looking good in terms of having anything happen any time soon.

I'm so disappointed I could cry, but I can't. It would just make Abby feel worse.

  1. I'm so sorry Sherry. Nothing about 2010 is going the way any of us could have hoped for your family. I know tomorrow might not be perfect, but you guys have an amazing ability to adapt and compromise in these not so great situations, and I'm sure you'll do just that. I'm pulling for all of you...

  2. Oh Sherry. I'm so sorry. What terrible timing. Hopefully you'll get to have a thanksgiving - even if it isn't on Thursday.
    Love and hugs.

  3. Sorry to hear this . Broviacs are a pain for many reasons.. get displaced or blocked for no apparent reason so Abby should not feel bad as so easily done. Alex needed at least one replacement during the course of her chemo regime first time round. We went with a subcutaneous port in cancer number two but that has a lot of other problems and the doctors don't seem to like them for kids or for the protocols they have and you would not want it for the number of blood draws needed ... Let's hope they can get the surgery scheduled with as little disruption as possibe to your next few days..
    Thinking of you..
