About Us

Our family of 6 (dad Adam, mom Sherry, big sister Abby and little brothers Isaac and Brady -- who was born on December 14, 2010) joined the ranks of pediatric cancer fighters when our 4-year old son Logan was diagnosed with a dangerous and highly malignant form of brain cancer in mid-August 2010. Logan's cancer journey began abruptly on Sunday, August 15, when his right eye suddenly turned inward during dinner. Twenty-four hours later, we were checking into Children's Hospital Oakland and finding out that life sometimes takes you places you'd never, ever imagine yourself going.

Tuesday Morning at CHO

As God would have it --since I don't believe in luck, per se, the substitution makes perfect sense-- Logan's line refused to draw this morning, so Adam took him to CHO to have it cleared out. (It's not an unusual occurrence --sometimes blood will form little clots somewhere in his line and it won't flush out.) When they arrived, it also happened that Logan's primary was there in his office, so Adam asked him to take a look at Logan's eye and conveyed our recent experience and observations. Adam said that he covered the good eye and had him look to the right, which he was apparently able to do. Dr. T noted that when Logan had first arrived last Fall, he'd been unable to do that at all, so he was disinclined to think that it would be tumor pressing against the nerve. He asked when we'd most recently had his vision checked, and when Adam said that it'd been almost a year, he speculated that what we're seeing is a lazy eye. Philippa is setting up an eye appointment for him now so we can see how his eye is faring. Of course, though he doesn't think it's the case, there's no guarantee that it's not tumor related. Dr. T also noted that if it is, we'd be in a very bad spot so waiting the next week for the MRI wouldn't do much damage.

It's so hard to hear words like that about my sunshine. Though I naturally feel a bit of relief over hearing that he doubts that what we're seeing is cancer-related, the fear still lives on. My immediate reaction was to recall the words that have come to me so often over the past days --things are not always as they appear-- and to breathe a sigh of relief. But then, of course, the devil's advocate spoke from somewhere within, casting doubt upon my relaxed mood, quietly whispering but what if it's the *doctor* who isn't seeing things as they really are? What if YOU are right, what if YOUR fears are the reality and he's not seeing what's actually going on? Yes, it's just oh-so-fun to be me.

I've prayed a lot over the past 24 hours; for Logan's healing, for our family, for the doctors to have the wisdom to make the right decisions. But mostly, for the big, ugly, daunting mountain to move.

I feel like we're facing urgent times now --if only because my sanity is suffering blow after blow-- so please keep praying for Logan's complete healing and for the rest of us. If you can think of anyone else who would be willing to join us, please extend an invitation.

  1. Hi Sherri,

Stopped by to see how you and Logan are doing. As I read through this, this verse came to mind: "perfect love casts out fear" (1 John 4:18). God is perfect love, and therefore, dwelling on Him and meditating on His Words alone will cast out fear.

I 100% believe the words that came to you, "things are not always as they appear," are from the Holy Spirit within you. You said it yourself, perfectly, that the *devil's advocate* is the one casting doubt. You are of God, Sherri. Pay no attention to what the devil is saying. Believe me, I know how hard that can be, but remember, believing is a CHOICE you have to make, in the face of contrary evidence. We believe in the things yet unseen, remember? (Heb 11:1).

I really, truly, don't want to come across as callous (if what I'm saying comes across that way at all), but I feel that sympathy alone isn't going to make a lasting difference for you. I really feel for you, as I have been in similar shoes before. But now is the time to take up the armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18), and to stand strong, in the face of opposing evidence.

Remember, Jesus lives IN YOU. If you believe Jesus can move the mountain, YOU can say, as His ambassador, "MOUNTAIN, BE REMOVED," and it WILL be removed. Mark 11:22-24 has worked for me, and it will work for you too. You're not just a human being, Sherry. You have GOD living in you. You're a new creature in Christ (2 Cor 5:17). You can speak to the cancer/tumor as God's own ambassador, and it will obey you because Christ lives in you.

I just want to encourage you, Sherri. I have prayed for Logan on many occasions recently as God brought him to my mind, and will continue to do so. I KNOW how difficult it is to find strength in these times. So don't count on yourself - be strong in HIS might. Use the Name of Jesus. Speak on HIS behalf, and you won't need to rely on yourself.

Have you read Dodie Osteen's (John Osteen's mother, if you're familiar with him) book, "Healed of Cancer"? I meant to send it in the care package, but forgot to include it. You can download it here: http://hopefaithprayer.com/books/Healed%20of%20Cancer%20-%20Osteen.pdf.

I wish I could talk to you in person, give you a hug, and lift you up in prayer. Since we're far apart, I'll just do the last part, which is the most powerful one anyway.

You'll get through this, Sherri. Know that when you stand on God's Words, He cannot fail, for He would be failing Himself, then - and you know that cannot happen!

    xoxo,
    Yoojin

  2. I wanted to post my prayer for you, so that you know I'm standing with you.

Father, I lift up Sherri to you. Only You know what she is going through, Lord, and I ask that Your peace that surpasses understanding envelop her, and that the angels be loosed to minister unto her and Logan, and to encompass about her family, in Jesus Name.

I ask you, Father, that You would open the eyes of her understanding to the marvelous truth that You have deposited Your own Spirit within us, and that in Christ, You have made us more than conquerors.

I also ask you, Lord, to hold her steady, and to catch her fall and lift her back up as Your eyes are fixed upon her. I ask You to make Your Word alive - as if You are there speaking in person - so that she can take guidance and comfort from Your Words that never change.

I bind the spirit that is working against her and her family, in Jesus Name. You shall NOT operate in Logan's life anymore, in Jesus Name. I speak to cancer and command it to leave, NEVER to return, in Jesus Name. I command tumor to leave Logan's body, and NEVER return again. I speak to the parts of his body that were affected, and speak the LIFE that is in Christ, and command them whole and healthy, in Jesus Name.

I thank You, God, that Your Word is true, that when you have said we WERE healed, by His stripes, then that means we ARE healed, and that no disease, sickness, has ANY part in our bodies. I stand on that promise and command Logan's body to line up with the Word of God, in Jesus Name.

Thank you, Lord, that You watch over Your Words to perform them, and that You hasten to perform these Words, in Jesus Name.

We praise and glorify You in advance for fulfilling Your Word, and for seeing to it that Logan is healthy and whole, free from any sickness.

In Jesus Name I pray, Amen.

  3. Praying. Praying. Praying. Praying.
Sherry, I am lifting you up as much and as often as I'm lifting Logan up to God. I hate that you are under such brutal attack.
ALL of you are in my prayers.
So much love to you. Asking God to give you peace tonight (and tomorrow, and ongoing.)

  4. I wish I could take up some of the fear for you. It's just a lot to ask for you and Adam to keep this up, day after day after day.
